Kate Garraway and GMB doctor blast Matt Hancock for being seen without face mask

Kate Garraway and Dr Amir Khan have blasted Matt Hancock for being seen without a face mask.

The health secretary was pictured on Monday evening in his ministerial car with no face covering.

Downing Street said it has advised all ministers to wear face coverings despite passengers of chauffeur-driven cars being exempt from a fine .

Members of the public can be slapped with a £200 fine if they fail to wear a face covering in taxis or private hire cars.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, Kate criticised Mr Hancock for sending out a 'terrible message' by not using a face mask or covering.

The presenter did add, however, that she 'didn't want to pass judgement' as she herself has found herself forgetting to wear one.

"When we leave here… so many times, even I who is unbelievably cautious and aware of things, will get into the car and the driver will be like, 'Kate, your mask,' and I go, 'Oh gosh,' I'd forgotten," she explained.

Dr Amir Khan also said the health secretary 'should be setting an example' (ITV)

"So we don't want to pass judgement, but you'd think somebody would remind him because that is a terrible message."

GMB's Dr Amir Khan - who is filling in for Dr Hilary Jones - also argued: "Matt Hancock is the health secretary, it's really important he is seen behaving in a way we all need to be behaving."

He added that "it should be second nature now" and "We've got to protect those around us."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
