Kate Garraway and Edwina Currie in fiery clash over travel tests

Kate Garraway and Edwina Currie had an angry clash on Good Morning Britain today over the cost of PCR tests to travel abroad.

Edwina appeared on the show alongside doctors, test providers and travel experts after concerns were raised about the high cost of the tests.

Kate said it seemed like companies were profiting because people had no choice but to get the tests done and back within the correct time frame.

Kate said she had come across the issue personally as she looked into travelling abroad with her children Darcey and Billy.

But Edwina said she shouldn't travel abroad and should instead holiday in the UK.

Edwina said: “Kate, bring the kids up to the Peak District, you’ll have a lovely time, you’ll be very very welcome.”

Kate said: “Well, since you made it personal, it’s not necessarily about that, but I’ve been trying to book a holiday in the UK and have not been able to find something suitable because I have particular needs and I can talk about that another time.

“But actually your point doesn’t help the travel industry. The whole point of the PCR tests and getting things going is to encourage people to travel safely, not being at risk, this is what the government said…"

But Edwina cut her off and said: “Let me respond to what you’ve said.”

Kate said: “I’m very keen to travel abroad but this is because of a very specific reason where I need to travel.”

Edwina said: “We have lots of people with special needs who holiday in all parts of the United Kingdom.

“So the idea that you have to pay for these tests in order to go on holiday…”

Kate quickly replied: “I haven’t even said it’s a holiday, Edwina…”

Edwina argued that you "get what you pay for" and said that she didn't think the tests were overpriced.

But Dr Amir Khan said that the high cost of the tests means working class people are unable to have a holiday abroad, even if they are double jabbed.

And Kate said that many people wanted to travel for their mental health.

She said: “There’s something about it that feels wrong."
