Kate Garraway admits she still gets 'lovely Friday buzz' despite husband's health troubles

Kate Garraway was in great spirits on Good Morning Britain today as she admitted she still gets a "lovely Friday buzz" despite her husband Derek Draper 's ongoing health battle.

The 53-year-old TV presenter was hosting the ITV show alongside Ben Shephard, Charlotte Hawkins and Richard Arnold when she made the admission about looking forward to the weekend.

As they spoke about Fridays in lockdown, Kate said: "For most of us we’re not really doing anything, but there is still a lovely buzz about Friday."

"Shall we start the Friday feeling now?" she then asked, despite it not even being 7am yet.

Kate has had a particularly difficult year after her husband Derek fell ill with coronavirus and was admitted to an intensive care unit.

In June 2020, he remained in critical condition after ten weeks, and was in an induced coma, but the following month, he had opened his eyes, but still remained in hospital in a serious condition.

Sadly, Derek is still in hospital but mum-of-two Kate hasn't been able to visit him for weeks.

But she appeared to be on great spirits on Friday as she and the GMB team then went on to share their favourite feel good Friday tunes, with Ben reading out what had been voted the top five.

As it was revealed that Eye of the Tiger was number one on the list, Kate admitted: "I’ve blowdried my hair a few times to this one getting ready to go out!"

Viewers tuning in at home were very much enjoying Friday's show, following a rather dramatic week which saw Piers Morgan quit the show, and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One person posted: "GMB is a refreshing watch this morning. Must be the lack of certain someone. #goodmorningbritain."

Another viewer tweeted: "I AM FINALLY ENJOYING #GMB #goodmorningbritain ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS AND FUN!!!! NO HATE, NO FIGHTS, NO DRAMA! YEAH, NO DRAMA QUEEN!"

A third added: "@RichardAArnold should definitely get more air time, absolutely hilarious Cheered me up @GMB #goodmorningbritain #gmb."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
