Scottish Finance Secretary Kate Forbes has announced she is engaged to be married.
The 30 year old SNP MSP took to Twitter to make the public announcement days before she presents her second Scottish budget to Holyrood and having just launched support for the wedding industry.
The Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch MSP tweeted: “Having launched the Wedding Fund today, I should declare an interest as a brave man asked me to marry him on a snowy local walk over the last few days and I said yes. No plans yet for a wedding - there’s plenty of Budget work to manage first. Some rare happy news!”
The tweet was accompanied by a picture of a sparkling diamond ring on Forbes' finger.
Forbes control of an annual Budget worth around £34 billion and had just announced £15 million fund to provide support to businesses whose main income comes from the wedding and civil partnerships industry, which has been significantly impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Forbes is due to present the annual budget to the Scottish parliament on Thursday, having been parachuted into the role of Finance Secretary last year when Derek Mackay was forced to resign.
Called in at the last minute on Budget day, the 29-year-old received positive reviews as she delivered the Scottish Government’s draft tax and spending plans to MSPs with only hours to prepare.
