Kate Ferdinand shares beautiful tribute to 'mothers in heaven' after taking on step mum role

Kate Ferdinand has led a touching tribute to mothers both ‘here and in heaven’ on Mother’s Day.

The 28-year-old step mum, who lives with husband Rio Ferdinand, 40, and his three children, took to social media to share an adorable picture alongside her own mother Jacqueline.

“Happy Mother’s Day everyone. A special day to appreciate everyone who gives us the love, care and attention we need,” she began in the caption.

“Here’s to the mums, and the ladies in our lives who aren’t mums but treat us as if they are. To the ladies that are here and those that are watching over us from heaven.

“Love has no limits, love is not bound by blood. Love is love, and it is so powerful. I hope all of u feel special and appreciated today.

“And for those without Mums here I hope you can find the strength to celebrate the good times. I am thinking of you all today.”

In the post, Kate embraces her doting mum as they smile in front of a stunning wall of flowers decorated with pictures of her family.

Kate’s Instagram followers have leapt into the comments to commend the young step mum and wish mothers all the best on their special day.

“Happy Mother’s Day to you, step mums do not get the recognition they deserve sometimes and can be the hardest but most rewarding job,” wrote one fan.

“As always heartfelt words. Have a lovely day @kateferdinand hope you are being spoilt today xxx,” wrote another.

Last month, Kate opened up about adjusting to family life in the documentary Kate And Rio: Becoming A Stepfamily.

At one point during the emotional recording, Kate wept as she read her Mother's Day message to her husband's late first wife, Rebecca.

Rebecca passed away in 2015 of breast cancer yet remains an important figure at the centre of the family’s life.

Speaking of the cards that the family takes to Rebecca’s grave on Mother’s Day, Kate explained in the episode: "We laminate them so that when they're at the cemetery they can last longer rather than getting wet and damaged.

"I always write a message from me because after all, I'm looking after and bringing up her children with Rio."
