Kate Ferdinand says they're being 'watched over' after one of her and Rio's children suffer 'serious accident'

Kate Ferdinand has said her family are being 'watched over' after one of her and her husband Rio's children suffered a 'serious accident' over the weekend. And to add to the stressful weekend, the mum-of-one and step mum-of-three has also ended up with shingles.

Former The Only Way is Essex star Kate took to Instagram on Monday morning (January 16) to give a candid update on what has been going on with her family over the weekend. Kate did, however, say it could have been "so much worse" as she posted a picture to her Stories from her bed.

"Morning guys. It's a different kind of Monday for me this week, it's been a really stressful weekend!" she began as dog, Ronnie, could be seen keeping her company. "One of the kids had a serious accident, thank goodness they are OK & have only ended up with their leg in a cast.

"It could have been so much worse, we are definitely being watched over." She then added of her own ill health: "I also have shingles, feeling really rubbish & sore & emotional from this weekend's events! So me and Rons are chilling in bed for the morning." Kate went on to try and get some help from her fans as she ended the post: "I would be so grateful for any advice."

Kate's run of bad luck comes after she shared an exciting career announcement. The 31-year-old, who is stepmother to husband Rio's children Tate, 13, Lorenz, 15, and Tia, 11, while the pair share two-year-old son Cree, announced last week that she is releasing a book, titled How To Build A Family.

It is described as a 'modern parenting handbook' which is to help blended families like her own. She wrote alongside a first-look at the book on Instagram: "I'm just so excited (& a little nervous) to finally be sharing this with you all… I’ve written a book. How To Build A Family is the kind of modern parenting handbook that I wish I had been given when I started out on my journey in a fully blended family.

Kate shared a post on her Instagram Story that detailed her 'stressful' weekend (Kate Ferdinand Instagram)

"It's packed full of advice from experts, every day stories & some of my experiences along the way. It’s there to guide you on your journey & pick you up when your not feeling so great. I'm just so grateful I’ve been able to bring my vision to life & create something that will hopefully help others along the way with their parenting journey.'

She ended the post by thanking her team and described the news as 'a real pinch me moment'. She wrote: "Thank you so much to the team @eburybooks @penguinukbooks @puffinbooksuk & @happyplaceofficial for giving me the opportunity to create this book. It kind of doesn’t feel real & is something I’ve dreamed of doing for a long time, a real pinch me moment."
