Kate Ferdinand reflects on 'first official' Mother's Day as she remembers Rio's late wife and mum

Kate Ferdinand says her 'first official' Mother's Day brought an unexpected range of emotions.

The former reality star and husband Rio Ferdinand welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Cree, 12 weeks ago.

But doting step-mum Kate made sure to be "sensitive" on a "difficult day" for her husband and his three children Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and nine-year-old Tia who he shared with late wife Rebecca Ellison.

Kate, 29, shared a series of images to her Instagram Story on Sunday.

The first was of herself wearing a rainbow-coloured cheetah-print dress as she penned: "It was meant to be a PJ day, but we decided to get dressed up last minute.

"It made all the difference and we had a lovely family meal."

She then shared a picture of a stunning purple flower bouquet, writing: "We have celebrated our mummy’s in heaven."

Kate also shared a personalised shirt printed for Mother’s Day, which read: "Mumm + Cree, our 1st mother’s day 2021."

She commented alongside: "My first ‘official’ Mother’s Day, although have felt like a mum for years.

"Trying to be sensitive on such a difficult day but enjoy it at the same time has brought a whole new range of emotions I wasn’t quite expecting."

Sharing images of more flowers, Kate later reflected: "Feeling extremely blessed and grateful to be here celebrating with my family.

"The gift of life is something we often take for granted."

She added: "Very deep but very true. Lots of love to you all everyone."
