Kate Ferdinand heartbroken after Rio's kids tell her 'you're not a mum'

Kate Ferdinand has opened up about the difficulties she faced when she first moved into now-husband Rio Ferdinand's home, and was required to take on responsibilities for looking after the former-footballer's three children.

Kate, who previously starred in The Only Way is Essex, has admitted that she didn't find things easy at first - though she and Rio now have the kids' full support.

Opening up to Times Magazine, Kate recalled a time she faced a backlash from one of Rio's children during a family argument.

While she didn't reveal exactly what the argument was about, the 28-year-old explained how one of her partner's children had said: "You don't know. Because you're not a mum."

Kate continued: "The minute they said it, there was a gasp. They've never said it again.

"But I'm not their mum. But I act like a mum and I see them as my children."

Kate then went on to reveal how she'd struggled to get to grips with things when she first became part of the Ferdinand household.

She admitted: "Simple things like I forgot to cut their toenails. I was so busy trying to do everything perfectly and someone pointed out they needed their toenails cut. Or cooking. I couldn't cook very well when I met Rio and the kids. I would burn everything.

"I would go, 'Is it nice?' and they would say, 'Not really.'"

Rio's former wife Rebecca Ellison tragically lost her life to cancer in 2015 - two years before Rio met Kate on a trip to Dubai.

Kate admits that she went through 'a lot of counselling' to come to terms with being the new female figure in the house, but says that Rebecca is remembered every day, and the family even have a room of photos dedicated to her.
