Meghan's wedding dress maker on brink of homelessness after closing Bristol workshop

An embroiderer from Bristol who worked on Meghan Markle's wedding dresses is ‘heartbroken’ after her Universal Credit application was rejected four times.

Chloe Savage, who has closed her workshop in the city, is reportedly facing homelesses after receiving no financial support during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 43-year-old, who has also worked on costumes for the Harry Potter franchise, is now struggling to feed her two children and is reportedly on the verge of homelesses following a lack in Government funding, the Mirror reports.

She told the Sunday Times she has laid off apprentices and closed her workshop after work dried up due to Covid-19.

She said: “My daughter has started avoiding eating lunch and supper because she thinks it will save me money on the food bill."

The government has been criticised over the lack of support for self employed people.

As her business - Chloe Savage Embroidery - is not making any money, she has not been able to draw a salary and now says she can only afford one more month of rent.

Ms Savage said: “Why is the government persecuting small-business owners?

"It keeps going on about us being the backbone of the recovery, but we won’t be there to recover in a few months.”

The embroider, who signed the Official Secrets Act after working on the wedding dresses, is now working from her mum's garage.

She’s also distraught at the huge impact her circumstances are now having on her teenage daughter and son, eight.

Campaign group Excluded estimates there are three million people in the UK who have not received any financial assistance during the crisis.

Ms Savage told the Sunday Times she spends half her time in tears, and her dad has sold his car to keep her family afloat.

She also helped to sew Meghan's veil ahead of her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry .
