Kat Dennings recalls 'most cherished' audition with Nicolas Cage: 'He was so respectful'

Kat Dennings has opened up about one of the “best memories” of her life involving fellow actor Nicolas Cage.

In an interview with Variety, the WandaVision star talked about how once she was in a final audition in a “very dramatic” movie that was directed by a “hugely famous director”.

For the scene, she was supposed to be physically restrained by Cage, who didn’t seem to want to touch her.

“I'm ready to get into like the physicality of the scene, but I realised pretty quick that that actor is not going to touch me,” Dennings said, noting how she was “pretty young” at the time.

“He's also not going to be near me. He was at the other end of the room, which seemed to be his choice.

“I was like, 'I'm going to be miming this,'" she continued. “So a scene where I am asking to be let go of and physically wriggling out of this man's grip became a miming session. But I understand and I respect that the actor made that decision. But at the time, it was not great because I was like: 'I look like an absolute moron. I'm not getting this.'”

Even so, Dennings said she was “actually really grateful” for the experience, calling the actor “so respectful”.

“It’s like one of my most cherished audition stories … I wanted to be in a room with Nicolas Cage,” Dennings said. “But what's nice is that he was so respectful, and I think that might have been where it was coming from, like, I'm a young girl, so he didn't want to physically touch me and make me uncomfortable. I appreciate it. I really do.”
