Kasper Schmeichel's extraordinary rant after Liverpool win at Leicester

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel went on an astonishing rant after his side’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool , accusing referee Michael Oliver of wanting to “make himself a hero".

The Reds extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 13 points by .

A Roberto Firmino double, plus James Milner’s penalty and a fourth from the superb Trent Alexander-Arnold , saw Liverpool continue their march to the title.

But it was the awarding of penalty in the second half, following a Caglar Soyuncu handball, that raised the ire of the Foxes’ goalkeeper.

And his frustration saw him call out both Oliver and former referee Dermot Gallacher, who now works primarily as a pundit.

Speaking to Amazon Prime after the game, Schmeichel said: “I think it was a bit tough. We were in the game until the referee had to make himself a hero, and from then on we lost our composure.

"They are the best side in the world along with Manchester City. We strive to be like Manchester City and Liverpool but they are a lot further along in their journey.”

Schmeichel continued: “What’s his name, Dermot, he’ll be on Sky saying ‘oh, it’s a great decision, the referee was brave’ or something like that.

“I don’t know what he’s supposed to do. His arm’s down by his side, it’s been flicked off someone at the front post, he’s got less than a millisecond to react.

“He’s desperate to give it, and once he gives it, VAR’s never going to overturn it is it?”
