Kasper Schmeichel glad Leeds United are back in the Premier League after his 'difficult' spell

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has explained why he is 'glad' to see Leeds United back in the Premier League after he discussed his time at the club on The Fozcast. The Denmark international joined the Whites from Notts County in 2010 and went on to make 40 appearances, keeping nine clean sheets in the process.

However, Schmeichel spent just a season at the Whites before signing for Leicester City after the club accepted a bid for the shot-stopper. It was a move that, at the time, he was surprised about, but Leeds decided to cash in and sell Schmeichel to their Championship rivals.

Schmeichel's career has taken off since, helping Leicester back to the top-flight in 2013/14 before guiding the Foxes to their unlikely Premier League title victory in 2015/16, as the Foxes saw off the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea to be crowned champions.

He has also featured in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, while lifting the FA Cup in a distinguished career. But Schmeichel hasn't forgot about his early career and time at Leeds.

When quizzed about his time at Leeds, Schmeichel said: "I went to Leeds and it didn't quite work out the way I hoped. It was a difficult year, I have talked a lot about it and I would have loved it to work.

"It is a huge club and it is one of those things where if they had been run right back then, the potential they had was incredible. Going back now, it's a different club and I'm glad where they are now because that is a Premier League club. I could feel it straight away and I knew it was a big club that I have now joined.

"But it was a club that was very much run in a way that made it very difficult for the players, we were very much forced to contend with the great history of the club and it wasn't conducive to where we were at the time. I went on summer holiday there and I had been injured two months in that season. I think I played 40 games and in that period I missed we had a game against Preston and we lost 7-4, we lost two of them 6-0 and that goals against stat was used against me."
