Kasper Schmeichel backs Leicester City to survive ahead of Leeds United crunch clash

Kasper Schmeichel has backed Leicester City to avoid the drop ahead of a season-defining nine days for the club. The Foxes welcome Wolves to the King Power Stadium on Saturday, before travelling to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Tuesday.

They then host Everton in their third game in the space of nine days, and by which point the relegation picture will look much clearer.

Leeds are currently four points above Leicester, who sit 19th in the Premier League as it stands. Dean Smith lost his first game as interim manager with a 3-1 defeat at Manchester City, but Leicester legend Schmeichel, who also spent 18 months at Elland Road, expects his former club to rescue themselves from relegation.

"It's a shame that it didn't work out with Brendan, he's a top manager. Now it's up to Dean Smith and his team and I have every faith in them. I know the people there. I know their character. I have every confidence that they will save themselves," Schmeichel told The Sun.

"I don't think they need my advice. A lot of the people that were there in 2015 are still there, Craig Shakespeare is back and a lot of the staff can help with their wisdom. Staying up wouldn't be a miracle because they're a good team with very good players.

"I have every faith that they will get out of the predicament they are in and will be fine. When you take points from those teams [Leeds and Everton] then it helps you a lot. The most important thing as a Leicester player is to never give up. I have every confidence in that club, it's a great club. I love Leicester very much."
