Kashmir: Three journalists allegedly assaulted by army personnel while covering event

Journalist unions have condemned the alleged assault on three journalists in Kashmir by Indian Army personnel during an event in Baramulla district yesterday.

The Tribune reports that the event featured actor Ameesha Patel. While the journalists were trying to get a sound bite from Patel, they were reportedly "thrashed by soldiers" "without any provocation", the Kashmir Press Club said.

According to PTI, the press club's statement said: "The Club received several calls by the anguished journalists and while sharing details of the incident they said that they were thrashed by soldiers while they were covering the Jashn-e-Baramulla function, organised by the Army, wherein Bollywood actor Amisha Patel was the chief guest. As per them the incident took place without any provocation when they were trying to get a sound byte of the Bollywood actress at the side-lines of the function."

The press club has demanded an inquiry into the incident.

The Jammu and Kashmir Journalists Union also condemned the attack.

The incident was also condemned by the Baramulla Working Journalist Association, the North Kashmir Journalists Association, and the Tangmarg Working Journalists’ Association, Rising Kashmir reported.
