Kash Ali's boxing licence suspended after David Price bite controversy

Disgraced heavyweight Kash Ali's boxing licence has been suspended pending a hearing, the British Boxing Board of Control has announced.

The Birmingham fighter was disqualified for biting Liverpool heavyweight David Price during a controversial contest at the M&S Arena on Saturday night.

Price was dominating the bout when he connected with a right hand counter in the fifth round which appeared to have Ali in some trouble. He reacted by wrestling Price to the canvas where bit the Liverpudlian on the midriff, leaving a visible mark on his torso.

The referee, Mark Lyson, who had earlier docked Ali a point for hitting the back of Price’s head, immediately disqualified him.

After being roundly booed and jeered, Ali then left the ring under a barrage of drinks thrown by spectators.

Price claimed he had been bitten more than once and after suggestions of a rematch, said: “I don’t want to share the ring again with an animal like that,” he said.

“He did a couple early on and I thought he had lost his head completely. I hurt him to the body just before the final bite he took.”
