Kasabian say sweary anti-London banner was production error

Kasabian have denied responsibility for a banner reading “London is full of cunts”, projected on-stage at a recent gig in Glasgow. The English rock band, founded in Leicester, claimed the controversial backdrop was a production error.

“We were all shocked and certainly didn’t mean to offend anyone,” Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno told NME. “The production team fucked up. There were supposed to be photos of mundane objects in that section but instead I turned around in the middle of [the song] Clouds and couldn’t believe my eyes.”

There was no mistaking the scrawled slogan that appeared behind Kasabian at Wednesday’s SSE Hydro concert. The text appeared as part of a photograph of a locked door, and the band themselves reportedly posted a photograph to their Instagram account which has since been deleted. As one tweeter quipped, “Kasabian know how to get a scottish crowd on their side.” But others were not so approving: “Kasabian are dicks,” declared @Peejayavfc. “Branding London full of cunts, yet happily play[ing] 5 nights at Brixton [for] 40 quid +”

Indeed, Kasabian are due to perform at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 December. Tickets started at £42.50 plus fees.

“I love London – to visit. I wouldn’t want to live there,” Kasabian bassist Chris Edwards told the Leicester Mercury last year. Pizzorno also said that he “love[s] London”, “but it’s not got [Leicester’s] Braggy Park, has it?”

Kasabian’s latest album, 48:13, debuted at No 1 in June.
