Kasabian announces frontman Tom Meighan has left the band

Kasabian has announced that frontman Tom Meighan has left the band.

A statement was issued by the group, which is also made up of guitarist and vocalist Sergio Pizzorno, guitarist Chris Karloff, and bassist Chris Edwards, on Monday afternoon via their social media pages.

It read: "Kasabian have announced today that Tom Meighan is stepping down from the band by mutual consent.

"Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track.

"We will not be commenting further."

Tom had been Kasabian's lead vocalist since they formed in Leicester in 1997.

The 39-year-old was part of the groups six studio albums and a string of top ten singles.

Tom had recently done an interview with Sky News where he said the band "are still solid", with plans for a seventh album on the cards - as soon as they could get together in person again.

Fans have been reacting to the news with a mix of shock and sadness as well as wishing Tom the best.

One said: "2020 man. Bad news every single day. But seriously hope Tom sorts out his problems and comes back stronger so we can see Kasabian live again."

"Nah a canny believe this, feels like I've lost a family member. Favourite band for the majority of my years, no Tom no Kasabian in my eyes so thats the end," added another.

A third commented: "Kasabian without Tom just isn't Kasabian though is it? one of the last best guitar bands in the UK."

"Sad news about Kasabian and front man Tom Meighan, hope he gets himself back on track. Easily the best front man about," another comment read.
