Harry Kane on what Tottenham must do to keep up with Liverpool in Premier League title race

Liverpool have already opened up a five point lead over the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea at the head of the Premier League table.

The Reds are the only team in the domestic competition to have won their opening three games following a sensational 3-1 victory over Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday .

Next up for Jurgen Klopp's men is a trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley, meanwhile the Gunners will go head to head against Spurs, who lost 1-0 to Newcastle this weekend, as both London clubs look to close the already-widening gap at the summit of the Premier League .

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has outlined what his side must do to keep up with Liverpool in the 2019/20 title race.

"I said the first game of the season that Liverpool played on the Friday night and City early Saturday and they set the standard with the results they got," he said.

"I said we have to keep up with them and make sure we win, especially at home.

"It's disappointing we haven't done that with our second game, but there's still a long way to go and a lot of big games ahead of us.

"It just means we'll have to pick up points in the big games and try and improve on what we've done today."

Spurs are seen as the most likely candidates to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City in their bid for domestic glory this term but Kane says he is aware it would take a stunning set of results over a sustained period by his team to run either side close.

"It's still going to take a lot of hard work," he added.

"As you've seen from Liverpool and City so far is that there's no letting up from them.

"I said before the start of the season that a team that can put together a good run, momentum, maybe winning two months or three months on the bounce without dropping any points is what it's going to take.

"It's obviously a disappointing start but like I said there's still a long way to go."
