Karren Brady and David Moyes told to listen to West Ham stars over key decision

West Ham chiefs have been urged to listen to key figures among the playing staff over the possible return of football.

The Hammers are in discussion with other clubs in the top flight about the possibility of resuming the Premier League campaign, with nine games left to play.

No professional football has been played in England since the second week in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, although clubs have now voted unanimously to move towards the return of football, with players returning to training in small groups as part of step one of the return to training protocol.

The club statement shortly after the decision confirmed that West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady had been in “regular contact” with David Moyes, captain Mark Noble and the players through conference calls.

And former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson insists that it is important that senior players like Mark Noble are listened to, with the ex-Tottenham man speaking about the risks associated with the possible return of football.

“The players have to have a say," Robinson said, speaking to Football Insider.

“Unless the players’ safety can be 150% guaranteed there are going to be players that will not be happy to play. I would certainly not be happy to play given the risks.

“In dressing rooms, experienced, senior players will speak to others and form a nucleus of opinion. Senior players will feed that back to the manager and if players that do not want to play then the manager will have to be understanding of their personal scenarios.

“Until player safety is guaranteed a lot of players will be uncomfortable to return.”
