Karren Brady accused of 'endorsing animal cruelty' after elephant holiday snap

Karren Brady has been accused of endorsing animal cruelty after riding an elephant.

The Apprentice star and businesswoman, 50, was fiercely criticised when she posted a photo from a holiday in Thailand on Twitter .

Baroness Brady – vice-chairman of West Ham – put the snap up for her 280,000 followers with shots of a market and a jungle hike.

But she got flak from campaigners who say riding elephants causes mental stress and physical injury.

Cameron Stocks of Save the Asian Elephants said on social media: “Incredibly disappointed to see such a high profile figure endorsing the cruel sport of riding elephants.”

Twitter user Esther Hudson wrote: “Riding the captured, tortured elephants!” And fellow user @ThomasToyer said: “oh dear oh dear.”

Lady Brady hit back by saying she was visiting a sanctuary where rescued elephants were “incredibly well treated”.

Other big names including TV’s Martin Clunes and Monty Don and ex-MP Michael Portillo have also been hit by elephant rows.
