Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stood outside the White House on January 13 to exemplify irony. She first flattened Renee Nicole Good’s death into a talking point, weaponized it, and then accused Democrats of protecting pedophiles. Talk about projection.
Defending ICE in the wake of the killing of Renee Nicole Good, Leavitt did not hedge. She did not wait for investigations or acknowledge disputed facts, bystander footage, or unanswered questions. Instead, she declared that the ICE agent who shot Good was “absolutely justified.” Worse, she called Good a “ deranged lunatic,” and moved seamlessly into accusing GOP critics of protecting monsters.
What we have seen from the left is disgusting. It shows clearly where the modern-day Democrat Party stands today: protecting illegal alien pedophiles, rapists, and murderers over law-abiding American citizens and the brave men and women who serve in law enforcement.
According to Leavitt, the “modern-day Democrat Party” is now defined by “protecting illegal alien pedophiles, rapists, and murderers.” That is, in contrast with the GOP standing with “law-abiding American citizens” and law enforcement. It was a stunning thing to say. Not because it was new. But because of who was saying it, and who she was saying it for.
Leavitt is accusing others of protecting pedophiles to protect the pedophile who governs her
Leavitt’s comments come days after Renee Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident, was shot and killed by an ICE agent. Federal officials have insisted the shooting was self-defense. However, local officials and independent analysis of bystander footage have raised serious questions about that claim. Those questions did not matter to Leavitt. Instead, she framed the killing as settled, righteous, and beyond debate.
The Press Secretary then immediately recast public outrage as moral degeneracy. In Leavitt’s telling, concern for a dead woman is evidence of allegiance to predators. Except, Good was a mother to a 6-year-old and in no verified way, a predator. But guess who is? The man being protected by the DoJ and whose name is being redacted from the Epstein Files. The man sitting on top of Leavitt’s power pyramid. Donald Trump.
Leavitt serves a man who has repeatedly resisted transparency around the high-profile sexual abuse case against Jeffrey Epstein. The still-unresolved handling of documents tied to Epstein is proof of this. She speaks for a president who has been credibly accused of sexual assault. He even publicly bragged about sexual misconduct and socialized comfortably with known abusers.
And yet, Leavitt stood at the White House podium and accused others of protecting pedophiles. The irony is unavoidable, and backlash was immediate. Users on X called out Leavitt immediately, calling her “the mouthpiece of the administration protecting pedophiles.” Another wrote, “I’m flabbergasted she can say this with a straight face,” while one joked, “Is her nose getting longer?”
The reaction was complete disbelief at the audacity, hypocrisy, and cruelty of her statement. But chances are, Leavitt knows exactly what she’s doing.
