Karol G Shatters Another Glass Ceiling as Billboard's 2024 Woman of the Year

MIAMI - In a groundbreaking announcement, Billboard has named Colombian superstar Karol G as its 2024 Woman of the Year on Thursday, setting a new precedent in the music industry. The five-time Latin Grammy winner, including in the 2024 edition, is set to receive this prestigious honor at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 6, where she will become the first female artist who only sings in Spanish to receive the honor.

Billboard's Woman of the Year Award is renowned for celebrating the most influential female artists in the music industry. Past recipients of this honor read like a roll call of music royalty, including SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift, making Karol G's inclusion in this elite group a significant milestone.

This recognition for Karol G is not just a personal triumph but a monumental moment for Latin music, marking her place among the industry's most influential figures. Her upcoming performance at the event is eagerly anticipated, promising to captivate audiences with her unique blend of empowering rhythms and bold lyrics.

Karol G's very good 2024

The year is just starting, but the Colombian superstar is already winning. She debuted as an actress on "Griselda," the Netflix series starring Sofía Vergara; and last Sunday, she won her first Grammy, becoming the first Latin woman to take home the Best Urban Album award.

Hannah Karp, Billboard's Editorial Director, applauded Karol G's impact, noting, "With her immense talent, Karol G has created a movement for women across the globe due to her empowering lyrics and shameless confidence." She also emphasized the importance of Karol G's album "Mañana Será Bonito", which has made waves in both the English and Spanish music charts.

In the statement announcing Karol G as Billboard Woman of the Year 2024, Billboard highlighted her record-breaking 111 billion combined career streams. It also mentioned that her album "Mañana Será Bonito", achieved a historic feat as the first Spanish-language album by a female artist to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200.

Beyond her musical achievements, Karol G is known for her entrepreneurial spirit and philanthropic efforts. Following the end of her deal with Universal Music Latino, she established Bichota Records and later partnered with Interscope for distribution. Her commitment to social causes is evident through her Con Cora Foundation, which supports women in challenging circumstances.

Karol G is also nominated for nine Premio Lo Nuestro. The awards ceremony will take place in Miami, on February 22.
