BENGALURU: A KSRTC bus driver’s son pursuing UPSC civil service exam has made the cut to become an IPS officer. On Wednesday, KSRTC felicitated Anurag Dharu, 29, who obtained 569th rank in the exams, results of which were announced last month. Dharu’s father Manik Rao is a KSRTC driver at Bhalki depot in Bidar division of north Karnataka.
“After my BTech (electrical and electronics), I joined a private firm for 1.5 years. I took history as an optional subject for UPSC and cleared the exam in my fifth attempt (2021),” Dharu said.
“My father inspired me a lot. He always encouraged me to try again and again even though I couldn’t make it in four attempts,” said Dharu, adding his IPS training will start in two months.
“I have only one piece of advice to civil service aspirants. Never give up. Always keep trying and work hard,” Dharu said. He has three older sisters and a younger brother.
KSRTC chairman M Chandrappa and managing director V Anbukumar honoured Dharu and his parents Manik Rao and Kashibai at their headquarters in Shantinagar.
Chandrappa said Dharu is the pride of the corporation. “Our drivers are running buses round the clock. It’s indeed commendable that they are able to educate their children and help them get top academic honours.”
