Karnataka SSLC exam: 99.6% attend, results in August second week

BENGALURU: Nearly 8.5 lakh students turned up for the SSLC exam on Monday, a better turnout than last year. Monday’s was the first of two papers with the second — on languages — scheduled for Thursday.

The first paper on core subjects saw 99.6% of the nearly 8.8 lakh eligible students appearing for the examination as opposed to last year’s 98.4%. S Suresh Kumar, primary and secondary education minister, said the results will be announced on August 10 or 11.

While 99.6% of the 8,52,191 candidates who registered attended the mathematics exam, science saw an attendance of 99.6% of 8,43,976 students and social science 99.7% of 8,24,689 students. Last year, the attendance percentage for mathematics, science and social science was 98.30%, 98.36%, and 98.43% respectively.

The examination was held at 4,885 centres across the state and 111 candidates who showed symptoms such as cough and cold were seated in special rooms. Another 58 Covid-positive students too appeared for the exam from Covid Care Centres, while 2,870 took the test from government and private hostels. A total 10,693 students had changed their examination centre after migrating to a different part of the state.

The minister said not a single instance of malpractice was reported.
