Karnataka: SP with Rs 40 lakh assets jailed for 4 years, fined Rs 1 crore

BENGALURU: A special court for cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act on June 28 held a superintendent of police guilty of amassing assets worth 50% in excess of his known sources of income and sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment of four years. He was levied a fine of Rs 1 crore.

Judge SV Srikanth directed Srinivasa Iyer to undergo two more years of simple imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine. Iyer was SP, Armed Police Training School, Yelahanka when Lokayukta police raided him.

A press note said: "A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered in the Karnataka Lokayukta, Bengaluru city division, against Srinivasa Iyer on November 2, 2007. The next day, a raid was conducted. After completing investigation, the accused government official was found with disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 40,60,324, which was 53% above his income..."
