Karnataka: Sadhguru begins drive to up Nandi Hills green cover

BENGALURU: Namma Nandi Movement, an initiative to increase green cover in Nandi Hills and adjoining areas, was launched by Sadhguru on Saturday.

“Namma Nandi means ‘our Nandi’. When we call something ours, we should not only use it but also protect it. This movement aims to protect Nandi Hills from encroachment and to restore its ecological balance,” Sadhguru said.

Chikkaballapur district commissioner R Latha, deputy conservator of forests Arsalan and SP Mithun Kumar were present at the event, which was attended by 150 volunteers from Isha Foundation. The volunteers planted 500 saplings —150 at Nandi Betta and 350 in Gundu Thoppu of Yeluvalli village. Sadhguru said: “Nandi Hills and its surroundings are frequented by youths from Bengaluru. They can make a significant contribution to the movement by volunteering to help increase greenery.”

An Isha Foundation volunteer said the volunteers will plant saplings based on areas selected by the forest and revenue departments.
