Karnataka reports 48,296 new cases; Bengaluru 26,756

Karnataka on Friday logged its biggest single-day spike of 48,296 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total to 15,23,142. Of these, 26,756 cases are from Bengaluru Urban.

Friday’s spike has proved even projections made by epidemiologists wrong. While it had been projected that the daily cases would touch 30,000 by April 30, the speed of transmission is so high that numbers are nearing 50,000.

While Bengaluru contributes to nearly half of the total caseload, the infection is equally spreading in districts with Mysuru reporting 3,500 and Tumkuru reporting 1,801.

Tumakuru, Mysuru

While Bengaluru has 2,59,058 active cases, Tumkuru has the next highest with 12,534 followed by Mysuru at 10,775.

With 217 deaths, the toll rose to 15,553. While 93 of Friday’s deaths are from Bengaluru, Hassan reported the next highest at 19 followed by Mysuru at 13. This is apart from 20 deaths of patients due to non-COVID-19 reasons.

So far, the highest number of deaths have been reported from Mysuru (1,205) after Bengaluru where 6,375 patients have succumbed to the infection.

As many as 14,884 persons were discharged on Friday, taking the total recoveries to 11,24,909. The State now has 3,82,690 active patients. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 25.44%, the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) touched 0.44%.

As many as 1,89,793 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, including 1,75,513 RT-PCR tests. With this, the total number of tests rose to 2,55,96,991.

Vaccination

The State has vaccinated 95,81,682 people till 3.30 pm on Friday. This includes 6,76,497 healthcare workers and 3,77,151 frontline workers who have taken the first dose of vaccination. As many as 4,30,652 healthcare workers and 1,45,174 frontline workers have taken the second dose as well. On Friday, 2,09,459 beneficiaries took the jab till 8.30 pm.
