BENGALURU: As part of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Karnataka police on Sunday destroyed 21 tonnes of seized narcotics worth Rs 25.6 crore across the state. Cops destroyed ganja, opium, heroin, cocaine and synthetic drugs like MDMA and LSD among other narcotic substances.
Cops destroy 21 tonnes of seized narcotics
As part of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Karnataka state police on Sunday destroyed 21 tonnes of seized narcotics worth an estimated Rs 25.6 crore across the state.
Cops destroyed ganja, opium, heroin, cocaine and synthetic drugs like MDMA and LSD among other narcotic substances. The police availed permission from the courts concerned for the destruction. State police said they have registered 8,505 cases in the past 12 months and 7,846 persons, including 185 foreign nationals, have been arrested in drug-related cases.
On the same day last year, the police department had destroyed 24 tonnes of narcotics worth an estimated Rs 50.2 crore. City police said they destroyed 4,353kg of narcotics, 6,679 MDMA and ecstasy pills, 2,995 LSD strips seized between August 25, 2021 and June 26, 2022.
