Karnataka: Paracetamol tablets from PHC recalled after noticing colour change in Dakshina Kannada district

MANGALURU: Paracetamol tablets supplied to the public health centre (PHC) in Kotekar, in Dakshina Kannada district, have been recalled, after the health department received complaints from a person, who noticed a change in colour, on Friday.

Dakshina Kannada DHO Dr H R Thimmaiah said that the issue was brought to the notice of the department by a person from Kotekar on Thursday.

"A person from Kotekar sent a message with a video, regarding a complaint about tablets. Hence, I contacted the medical officer of the PHC immediately, and sought information. I also directed the PHC to return the two batches of 500mg paracetamol tablets. Out of 1,500 tablets that are due for expiry in January 2026, yellow dots were noticed in some of the blister packs. Hence, 1,500 tablets have been recalled, and samples will be sent for lab analysis to Bengaluru officially,” the DHO said.

Meanwhile, a message has been sent to all PHCs in Dakshina Kannada district, to check the quality of paracetamol tablets available in their centres.

"Tablets might have spoiled due to moisture content in the room," he said, adding that the tablets were supplied to the PHCs by the government, through Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceuticals Limited (KAPL).
