Karnataka: No buses between Mangaluru-Kasaragod for one more week

MANGALURU: In the wake of a rise in Covid-19 cases in Kasaragod district of Kerala, inter-state bus service between Mangaluru and the border district will remain suspended for one more week.

A Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) meeting chaired by Dakshina Kannada district minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary at Daskhina Kannada ZP office on Monday resolved that bus services between Dakshina Kannada and Kerala should not commence in the next one week.

“It is difficult to keep a tab on all passengers travelling on this route. Also, allowing inter-state buses will affect our Covid-control measures. We can take an appropriate decision after observing the daily positivity rate of Kasaragod district for the next one week,” the minister said.

Bus services on the interstate routes were suspended after the Karnataka government declared lockdown again from April 27. Only KSRTC buses from both states were operating on the Mangaluru – Kasaragod route. After Karnataka announced Unlock, buses started plying across the state from July 5. However, KSRTC buses on Mangaluru – Kasaragod route end trips at the border in Talapady.
