Karnataka: Elephant destroys plantation in Dakshina Kannada forest areas

KADABA: The elephant menace has continued to wreak havoc on farmers in the Subrahmanya and Panja Reserve Forest areas of the Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka.

From the past few days, a wild elephant has been entering the plantations in Kadaba taluk and destroying crops and property.

The plantation of Yeluwale Ramachandra Gowda at Renjilady was destroyed in one such instance, where the wild elephant destroyed more than 100 plantain and 50 areca and coconut trees.

Forest department officials, along with Noojibalthila Gram Panchayat members, visited the plantation.

Locals have also complained that a wild elephant has been roaming in the Niddo Balakka, Ichiladka, Yelumale, Hera Konaje areas and destroying crops, urging forest department to take suitable measures to prevent such incursions.
