KALABURAGI: Rudragouda Patil and his elder brother Mahanthesh Patil, the suspected kingpins in the PSI job exam scam, had used SIM cards belonging to man who had died of Covid and used these to connect with candidates on their Bluetooth-enabled phones during the test to help them with answers.

The CID team investigating the case has found out that the SIM cards belonged to Lakshmiputhra, a resident of Sonna village in Afzalpur taluk, who died of Covid.

The PSI job exam was held in October 2021. According to police, the accused had revealed that they used these SIM cards to stay under the radar in case there was an investigation. CID sources suspect that similar techniques could have been used in other exams too.

The police said that the brothers had revealed that they bought the phones from Odisha and gave the devices to candidates through the exam centre’s invigilators at Jnaya Jyothi English Medium School.

The president of the school, a BJP women’s wing leader Divya Hagaragi, is also a suspect in the case.

Mahantesh Patil is the Afzalpur block Congress president. The Patil brothers got to know which question paper the candidates were given and the candidates were given the answers through their Bluetooth-enabled devices.

After completion of the exam, the accused collected the devices from the candidates.
