Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai should resign on moral grounds for naked corruption: Randeep Singh Surjewala

UDUPI: AICC general secretary and party in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the state chief minister Basavaraj Bommai should resign on moral grounds for naked, blatant, and brazen corruption happening under his nose.

Surjewala also sought an inquiry by the chief justice of Karnataka high court into the corruption and a full report on the extent of corruption prevailing in the Basavaraj Bommai government in Karnataka.

Surjewala said in Udupi on Friday that the BJP government is knee-deep in sleaze and corruption.

"The manner and fashion in which the stench of corruption has engulfed the 40% commission government has put the entire state to shame that we are ruled by such a chief minister like Basavaraj Bommai. We saw how the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KSDL) chairman and BJP MLA from Channagiri Madal Virupakshappa’s son was caught with Rs 40 lakh red-handed in his office. Further, Rs 1.7 crore has allegedly been recovered from his office and within 24 hours, Rs 6 crore has been recovered from his residence. The MLA is absconding. The ugly stench of corruption of the BJP government has soiled the beautiful scent of Mysore Sandal Soap also,” he said.

"This corruption does not end at the doorsteps of the MLA and his son. How many more hundreds of crores were looted? Who all are responsible? Has chief minister Basavaraj Bommai taken any share? Has the share gone to any other ministers? Why has the industry minister Murugesh Nirani not been sacked so far? Why was the KSDL chairman and BJP MLA permitted to escape? What is the role of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai in this saga of corruption? Why are the chief minister and Prime Minister silent? Where is J P Nadda and Amit Shah? When will ED and CBI raid the chief minister of Karnataka, ministers and MLAs? These are the questions people of Karnataka want to ask. Our demand is clear – arrest the BJP MLA and sack the industry minister," Surjewala said.

The son of an MLA is also a senior official in the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), which is famous for corruption. They should also answer as to how many crores of rupees is looted from the board, said Surjewala, who was in Udupi to launch the distribution of Congress poll promises guarantee cards.
