MYSURU: A day after Tamil Nadu filed an objection in the Supreme Court stating Karnataka cannot table the Mekedatu project at the court-constituted Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA), CM Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday criticised the TN government's stand. Asserting that the lower riparian state has no jurisdiction to seek the SC's directive to the Union government, he said the Cauvery Water Management Authority has the jurisdiction to decide about the projects.
"The CWMA is a body constituted following an order by the SC," he told reporters here and pointed out that CWMA is an independent and sole authority to clear projects as per the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. tnn
BJP has enough votes to elect 3rd candidate: CM
The TN government has filed a miscellaneous application before the SC. "The apex court will issue a notice to us, to which we will reply appropriately and factually," he said. Bommai said the government is in the process of appointing a new Lokayukta and the process is in final stages.
About the Rajya Sabha elections, the CM expressed confidence that BJP has enough votes to elect its third candidate to the upper house. "We have votes," he said, adding he is not worried about JD(S)'s bid to Congress to counter the saffron party.
