Karnataka: Car falls in rivulet, two persons missing

MANGALURU: A car accidentally fell into a swollen rivulet near Baithadka Masjid, on the Manjeshwar-Puttur-Subrahmanya state highway. The car that was washed away, was traced and retrieved by the team conducting the rescue operation.

Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane said that at 12.30 am on Sunday, a car accidentally fell into a rivulet near Baithadka Masjid. This was further confirmed by watching CCTV footage. A search operation was launched by the local police, public, fire service and four divers from Savanoor.

By 12 pm, the car was found, about 60m from the place where it fell into the water. Within the next 30 minutes, it was removed out of the water, he said. “The car belongs to Dhanush. The car was driven by Dhanush, 26, a resident of Kundadka, Vittal. He was accompanied by his brother-in-law, Dhanush,21, from Manjeshwar. The duo had left home around 8 pm. A search is on for them,” he said.

Sources said that one of them had called home around 11.45 pm, and informed that they might reach home around 2 am. Many people had gathered near the place, where the search operation was in progress.
