Karnataka: After 6 lakh in May, active Covid cases at 30,000

BENGALURU: The active Covid caseload of Karnataka has dropped from more than 6 lakh on May 15 to 30,082 now. It’s a huge relief for health officials and hospitals, but they stress that for the gains to hold, people must continue to take proper precautions.

On Saturday, Karnataka recorded 1,869 new cases and 42 deaths. Of these, 432 cases and six deaths were reported in Bengaluru Urban district, 207 cases and seven deaths in Mysuru, and 218 cases and five fatalities in Dakshina Kannada. A total of 3,144 people were discharged in the state.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, more than 1.8 lakh people were jabbed in the state. “Karnataka is second only to Gujarat among large states in percentage of the population vaccinated. The state has administered at least one dose to 44.4 per cent of the adult population,” the health minister tweeted.
