BENGALURU: State police on Sunday said seven people have been arrested so far in connection with the alleged malpractice during the written exam for recruitment of 545 sub-inspectors conducted on October 3, 2021.
In a press note from the office of DG&IGP, the department said some discrepancies were reported after the announcement of results. “...On April 7, 2022, once credible evidence was found about certain malpractices, the (home) minister himself ordered CID to investigate the entire recruitment process and alleged malpractices. Accordingly, an FIR was registered on April 9 and so far, seven persons have been arrested,” the statement read.
Of the people arrested, four are successful candidates and three are invigilators of the Kalaburagi centre. Police said many more are absconding and will be arrested soon. “CID has been ordered by the minister to examine each selected candidate and finalise the investigation at the earliest. Further action on the result will only be taken after CID completes its investigation and gives a conclusive report,” the note read.
The department reiterated no candidate or invigilation/supporting staff found to have indulged in malpractice will go unpunished. “Interests of genuine candidates will be protected,” it said.
