Karmichael Hunt faces court on cocaine charges

Queensland Reds star Karmichael Hunt (l) made no comment outside the court.

Wallabies and Queensland Reds star Karmichael Hunt has faced a Brisbane court on drug charges.

The 31-year-old was arrested with another man in Brisbane's entertainment district, Fortitude Valley, in the early hours of December 30, with police charging him with two counts of drug possession.

The charges relate to possession of cocaine and the prescription drug Xanax, which is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.

Hunt was also charged with contravening a police order on January 6.

It is understood he was required to visit the Fortitude Valley Police Station for fingerprint testing before January 5, but forgot.

He was charged when he went to the police station the following day.

Hunt was granted bail ahead of his appearance at the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

In court today, his lawyer requested a three-week adjournment after police provided the defence with new information.

Hunt is yet to enter a plea and made no comment on his way into court.

Hunt's career is at a crossroads, with the player stood down from team-related activities by Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) and Rugby Australia after the drug charges were laid.

"The parties are awaiting information from the Queensland Police pertaining to the circumstances of the recent allegations before any next steps or return to rugby activities will be contemplated," QRU said in a statement on December 31.

Hunt's arrest came a month after he re-signed with the Reds for two years.

Hunt began his professional career at the Brisbane Broncos rugby league club, before switching codes in 2010 to play AFL for the fledgling Gold Coast Suns.

He changed codes again to join rugby union squad the Queensland Reds in 2015, before being called up to play for the Wallabies in 2017.
