'Karma' - Liverpool fans send Manchester United message after Demba Ba goal

Liverpool fans enjoyed a bit of "karma" as Manchester United suffered a shock defeat in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

United were beaten 2-1 by Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey - and there was a familiar name on the scoresheet.

The Liverpool faithful may still shudder at the mention of Demba Ba, whose goal for Chelsea effectively put paid to their Premier League title challenge in 2014.

Steven Gerrard's infamous slip allowed former Newcastle United man Ba to find the net as the Reds slipped to a 2-0 defeat and ultimately finished as runners-up to Manchester City.

This moment led to relentless mocking from rival supporters - United in particular.

So, the tables were turned when Ba - now 35 - remarkably found himself with a clear run at goal from inside his own half in only the 12th minute of the Group H encounter with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.

Edin Visca doubled the home side's lead and although Anthony Martial reduced the deficit before the break, it was not enough to save United.

Here's what some Liverpool fans were saying about Ba's goal on Twitter...

@ish__intl: Karma for all of the years Man U fans laughed at the Gerrard slip #DembaBa #YNWA #LFC

@LFC_Hughesy: And the fact that Demba Ba scores after “that” goal a few years back when they delighted themselves at our #LFC shortcomings makes it even funnier!!

@AnfieldLexus: It hurts when Demba Ba breaks through on goal and slots underneath the keeper doesn’t it guys? #LFC #MUFC

@covfelfc: Little bit of PTSD seeing Demba Ba running through on United. Worth it. #LFC #MUFC

@MayankAdhye: Martin Skrtel n Demba Ba have combined to best Man united, one #LFC reject and the other a #CFC reject.

@SweeneyShay: Can't stop laughing at this.

@Jonola14: Karma for them laughing at Gerrard's slip much?!

@JHarmanGang: Love to see it.
