Karlson on the Roof by Astrid Lindgren - review

This book is the story of Karlson and Smidge, who get up to lots of adventures together. Karlson is a chubby man who loves toffee and playing tricks on people and can fly and says he’s the world’s best at everything. Smidge is a normal grubby little boy.

Together they play and scare people but what Smidge really wants is a dog. On his birthday he gets an adorable dachshund named Bumble, but he doesn’t get much part in the story because he’s always sleeping.

The funniest part of this book is that Karlson has 1000 dogs who are all called Ahlberg. Another time Karlson paints a picture of a cockerel on its own and calls the painting A Very Lonely Cockerel.

When I saw it was written by Astrid Lindgren I really wanted to read it because she also wrote Pippi Longstocking, and I really liked that book. I’d give this book 9 out of 10 because it was so good.
