Supermodel Karlie Kloss said she tried to tell her in-laws, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, that not accepting the US election result is "anti-American".
The 28-year-old is married to businessman Joshua Kushner, and his brother Jared is married to President Trump's daughter Ivanka, who also works as an adviser to the president.
Kloss tweeted condemning the siege of the US Capitol in Washington DC by Trump supporters last night. The mob forced entry as a joint session of Congress convened to formally count the Electoral College votes and certify Joe Biden's victory.
Kloss wrote: "Accepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic. Refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American."
The star's tweet received over 13,000 likes and one Twitter user responded by saying: “Tell your sister in law and brother law”.
Kloss replied: “I’ve tried".
Ivanka Trump called for her father's supporters to be "peaceful" in a now-deleted tweet. She wrote: "American Patriots - any security breach or disrespect to our law enforcement is unacceptable. The violence must stop immediately. Please be peaceful."
Last year, a contestant on Project Runway, which Kloss hosts, alluded to the model's relationship to the Kushner family. Later addressing the uncomfortable moment, Kloss told Andy Cohen on talk show Watch What Happens Live: “Andy, I’m sure I’m not the only person in this country who does not necessarily agree with their family on politics.”
The model went on to say: "I met my man in 2012, when I was 19 years old. It was 2012, it was a different world, and my man and I have been through a lot together. I’m so proud that he’s my partner; it’s not been easy, but it’s worth it, and I would make that same decision a million times again.”
Kloss publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election, encouraging her fans to vote for him, and even donning a Biden Harris face mask in an Instagram post.
