Karl Darlow facing nervous wait after suffering injury in Manchester United loss

Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow is facing an immediate assessment on his leg after a collision with Marcus Rashford in the 4-1 defeat against Man United.

The former Nottingham Forest stopper kept the score down and saved a penalty from Bruno Fernandes at St James' Park.

But is now doubtful for the next game and facing a scan with Steve Bruce's injury problems mounting.

Newcastle are already without Martin Dubravka - out with a heel injury - and will be down to the bare bones in the keeper department if Darlow is sidelined.

That would leave Mark Gillespie and rookie Academy stopper Dan Langley for the clash at Wolves.

Bruce said: “He’s taken a hell of a blow.

"We hope that he’s not too bad, but it’s one of those difficult ones to assess straight away.

“I wonder if the linesman had flagged earlier (for offside), rather than waiting for it with that ridiculous rule, then who knows, it might have been averted.

“Until we see the scans and how he is, then we won’t really know, but it’s fair to say that he’s very sore.”
