Karl Darlow catching England's eye after another man of the match display

Karl Darlow said Newcastle United were more than satisfied with a point against the Premier League champions Liverpool.

The goalkeeper was the star of the show at St James' Park as he produced save after save to keep Jurgen Klopp's men at bay.

Darlow denied Mo Salah, Firmino and Sadio Mane as the visitors pushed for three points but the former Nottingham Forest man earned Newcastle's first clean sheet of the season in the Premier League.

Darlow reacted: “I am delighted with a clean sheet and a point at home.

"We have come off the back of a tough game against Manchester City so to get a point against them we are happy.

“It was terrific to see the lads’ work rate and to come out with a point."

Darlow fins himself with stiff competition for the gloves at Newcastle with Slovakia international Martin Dubravka back from injury.

Dubravka was on the bench against Liverpool but Darlow looked to be in undroppable form.

He will certainly start against Leicester City on Sunday with Dubravka likely to play in the FA Cup against the holders Arsenal on January 9.

Darlow, speaking to BBC, said: "I can only concentrate on what I am doing.

"It has been brilliant to have him [Martin Dubravka] back to be honest and to work with him again. It is good to be under pressure.”

When asked about England talk, Darlow said: "It's silly for me to not admit I'm aware of it, I know what's going on and hopefully I can just keep performing well and it might put me in contention.

"I have just got to try and keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully it might happen."
