In a nearly six-minute long video on Instagram posted early Wednesday morning, Karl-Anthony Towns revealed his mother has coronavirus and that she’s in a medically-induced coma and using a ventilator.
The Minnesota Timberwolves star said that both of his parents felt symptoms earlier in the week and after they didn’t get better, they went to the hospital where his father was sent home to quarantine. His mother didn’t improve and as she got worse, she was eventually put into a coma.
Towns didn’t just share this to give an update. He also did it to plea with anyone who isn’t taking coronavirus seriously to “understand the severity.”
“This disease is real,” he said. “This disease needs to not be taken lightly. Please protect your families, your loved ones, your friends, yourself. Practice social distancing.”
