Karivellur-Peralam grama panchayat in the district has bagged two national awards - Child Friendly Grama Panchayat Award (CFGPA) and the Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Award (NDRGGSP). Panchayat president A.V. Leju said this was the second year in a row that the panchayat had won the CFGPA . He said the CFGPA award was given to only one grama panchayat from each State. Activities carried out through anganwadis, shishu mandir, Buds Special School as well as interventions through Kudumbashree and Balasabha contributed to winning the award. The panchayat has been able to undertake various programmes with the help of the public such as activities aimed at making the local body a child-friendly panchayat, a health park for the mental and emotional well-being of children and the elderly, job training at the Buds School, and provision of educational facilities for children during the years of COVID-19. The NDRGGSP award was given to the panchayat for its outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development of the people through projects approved by the grama sabha. He said the honours were the result of the joint efforts of the board, executive officers, other staff, the planning committee and working groups.
