Karim Benzema teases potential boxing career after being inspired by Mike Tyson

Karim Benzema has suggested that he is considering a career in boxing once his days in football come to an end.

The Real Madrid star has enjoyed one of his best seasons to date as Los Blancos wrestled back the La Liga title from rivals Barcelona.

Attention will now turn to their Champions League tie with Manchester City on Friday where the Spaniards need to overturn a 2-1 deficit at the Etihad.

Benzema has scored 26 times this term and also registered 11 assists but has recently discussed plans after football.

In a YouTube chat with his kickboxer friend Fouad Ezbiri the Frenchman confessed his desire to delve into other sports.

He said: "I get a thrill out of combat sports, and I love to train.

"Once my football career is over, why don't I train with you for six months?

"Then, if you think I am ready for a fight, there's no problem as far as I'm concerned. I swear to God, I'm up for it."

The former Lyon man is in his early 30s meaning he still has several years left in him and, based on the last 12 months, shows no signs of declining.

Benzema's boxing idol is former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who himself is set for a return to the ring.

Iron Mike will take part in an exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr in September.

The Madrid star continued: "It's his strength. I have always admired his presence, his determination and attitude.

"Besides, he has come from nowhere."

Tyson has already begun stoking the fire ahead of his bout after he claimed he said: "This is search and destroy, and I’m looking forward to recapturing my glory."
