Karim Benzema found GUILTY in sex tape blackmail case as Real Madrid star handed suspended prison sentence

Karim Benzema has been found guilty of extorting France teammate Mathieu Valbuena in 2015.

The 33-year-old has been dealt a one-year suspended prison sentence and a €75,000 (£63,000) fine.

The Real Madrid striker was one of five people finally put on trial last month after a long-running scandal shook French football to its core.

He was accused of conspiring with blackmailers who had acquired a sex tape featuring Valbuena and putting pressure on his teammate to pay them off.

Benzema denied the allegations and insisted he was only trying to help Valbuena get rid of the video.

But he has been found guilty of the allegations.

He is not expected to serve jail-time however with French football president Noel Le Graet insisting the outcome of the case will have no impact on his availability for the national team.

The other four guilty parties have been handed sanctions ranging from 18-month suspended sentences to two and a half years in prison.
