Karen Matthews' paedo lover investigated by police after camera spotted at his flat

Police have investigated the flat of Karen Matthews' paedophile lover after neighbours reported that they'd seen a camera taped to a window there.

Residents near Paul Saunders’ says they spotted the lens peering outside of his property, which us based just a short walk away from a local college and primary school, reports The Mirror .

The 57-year-old was sentenced to five years in prison and put on the Sex Offenders Register for life in 2010 for sexually abusing a girl between the age of 15 and 17.

Saunders also shares his property with Karen Matthews, who faked the kidnapping of her nine-year-old daughter Shannon in 2008.

Neighbours to the convicted sex offender expressed their discomfort

One resident said: “I’m not happy about it. I don’t want them filming me and I’d be worried if I had kids knowing that was there. He’s a paedophile.

“The college is just down the road and there’s always kids walking round here or waiting for the bus.”

Another resident on the street, which cannot be identified for legal reasons, said knowing the camera was there made him feel “uncomfortable”.

Police confirmed local officers had been informed.

Handyman Saunders, who is engaged to Matthews, reportedly said that he was “not bothered” by her 2009 conviction.

Shannon Matthews was missing for 24 days in 2008, but it later emerged her mum Karen knew where she was the whole time (PA)

Matthews, 44, reportedly called off the wedding after learning about her lover’s sick past.

But the pair were spotted walking hand in hand near their shared home on Valentine’s Day and are reportedly hoping to have a baby together via a surrogate. Their engagement was made public over Christmas.

Both Matthews and Saunders have been approached for comment.
