Karen Gillan says she misses Inverness and wants to swap LA for Scottish Highlands

Karen Gillan may be the toast of Hollywood - but she longs to chill out in Inverness.

Marvel queen Karen - starring in Netflix blockbuster Gunpowder Milkshake - wants to swap the LA high life for the Highlands.

When asked if she pined for her home town, she said: "Yes, I do - every single day."

Karen, 33, who shot to fame in Doctor Who, added: "I’m so homesick. I keep looking up houses in the Highlands, thinking I’m just going to move back.

"But then, for some reason, I can never seem to do it and there’s always some work reason not to and now I’m in Los Angeles, even though it’s not my favourite city in the world.

"It is fun but it’s not my vibe. People absolutely love it but I’m not much of a driver and I’m not much of a person to go into the sun so, for those reasons, I don’t think it’s a place for me."

While LA temperatures rarely dip below 23C, Inverness’s average is 13C with 72cm of rainfall in a typical year. It has just 1234 hours of sunshine recorded compared with 3246 hours in LA.

Karen is famous for her action roles but says she prefers snoozing to fighting.

She confessed: “I’m really good at being boring. I love it because I’m a firm believer in rejuvenation so I think people need to sit and do nothing more than they currently do. Some people just go, go, go, and I’m like, ‘Guys, just sit and have a day of absolutely nothing.’ Like no work whatsoever.

"I’m really good at that. So maybe my favourite thing is to be in the bath with some salt and oils.

"I’ll hold my hands up to this because they gave me a bed instead of a chair. You know those chairs you see actors sitting around set on? I got a bed."

Karen impressed critics with her fighting skills honed on hit film Jumanji and then delivered after three weeks of intense combat training for Netflix movie Gunpowder Milkshake, in which she stars with Lena Headey.

But she is far from "an actual butt kicker". She added: "I’ve never been in a fight."
