Karen Carney has deleted her Twitter account after receiving abuse following comments she made about Leeds.
The former Manchester United womens' star was working for Amazon Prime Video as a pundit.
In light of Leeds' 5-0 win at West Brom on December 29 Carney commented on the manner in which the Whites were promoted.
Marcelo Bielsa's side have a reputation for out running their opponents and it was again the case at the Hawthorns.
Carney commended their efforts but expressed concerns over whether they could keep that intensity up throughout the season.
Those methods saw them get promoted last season once football returned from lockdown.
That led Carney to say: "I actually think they got promoted because of Covid in terms of it gave them a bit of respite. I don't know if they would have got up if they didn't have that break."
Leeds' Twitter account responded referencing their 10 point winning margin in a post that has been described by many as innappropraite.
Off the back of that Carney was the target of online abuse which took aim at her point, but also her gender.
The post of Leeds' Twitter remains on their account and the video of Carney's comments has now been viewed £5.8m times.
The Yorkshire club were told they should be "ashamed" of their post by one person on Twitter which led owner Andrea Radrizzani to respond.
He said: "I take the responsibility of the club tweet.
"I consider that comment [from Carney] completely unnecessary and disrespectful to our club and particularly to the fantastic hard work of our players and coaches."
Several leading lights, including those who work in the media, have condemned Leeds' decision to tweet however.
Former defender Rio Ferdinand urged them to take it down while others felt it was inevitably going to incite criticism which subsequently turned to abuse.
